Positive effects of red wine and brain disorders

Red wine may help protect against neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. Researchers from the University of Milan have discovered that neural cells will regenerate and grow when exposed to the chemical resveratrol, found in grapes, wine, various berries and peanuts. Resveratrol is known to help fight infections on the grape vine and it also appears to help the enzyme Map-kinase in the regeneration of neural tissue. In conditions such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, the degeneration of neural tissue causes physical and psychological distress.

The researchers suggest that a daily glass or two of wine can help to reinforce neural connections seven-fold and prevent further degeneration.
